If you’re not sure when to go to the ER, or when to seek emergency care, we’ve done the work for you – follow our list of guidelines to learn when your medical issue requires an emergency room visit.

Emergency Room Visit 
Go to the emergency room immediately or call 911 if you are experiencing issues including:

Prepare in Advance
Create a file of medical records, including lists of allergies, current medications, and past surgeries or procedures. Include your emergency contact and general care practitioner’s information. When headed to the ER, bring the file with you. If you are suffering from slurred speech or confusion, ask a family member or friend familiar with your medical history to accompany you.

Sometimes a situation is clearly an emergency, but other times it may be unclear. If your life or limb is at risk, head to the emergency room immediately. Ultimately, trust your gut. If your gut tells you an incident is serious, follow it and go to the emergency room. If you are not sure when to go to the ER, always err on the side of caution. Your cautiousness could save a life.
